Hyderabad, YSR Congress President and Leader of Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has called up on the cadre and people to join hands to fight the anti-people policies of TDP government which is burdening the common man heavily and work for the ideals of YSR.
Speaking at a function held to mark the 12th contact programme taken up by YSR which has highlighted the failure of the nine-year term of Chandrababu Naidu and has changed the political course of the State, he said: “YSR had undertaken the padayatra in the scorching heat and toured 11 districts and the long march continued throughout the summer covering a distance of over 1,475 km.
With the TDP government imposing taxes and user charges besides increasing bus charges, power tariff, and had made fun out of the YSR promise of free power, the
padayatra had been highly assuring to all sections of the people. The mid-summer heat was severe and he fell ill at Rajahmundry but quickly recovered and continued the odyssey, recalled YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSR message that good days are ahead and change will usher in has been taken forward without any further interruption and he became darling of the masses.
At that time TDP was drifting away from people with its harsh policies while YSR was reaching out to the masses through the Padayatra and TDP was rejecting in the ensuing elections. After coming to power, YSR kept his promises and proved to be a model Chief Minister in governance by balancing welfare and development.
While Chandrababu Naidu has built just 2 lakh houses, YSR has increased it to 10 lakh houses per year and has touched the national mark of 47 lakh houses during his tenure. The mass contact programme made him to understand ground realities and he has launched two unique schemes that immensely benefitted the poor people. It was education and medicare that the people have to spend money and the weaker sections were deprived of these facilities.
He launched Aarogyasri, bringing quality health care within the reach of common man and unveiled Fees Reimbursement Scheme which brought professional education within the reach of weaker sections. His ideals are more relevant today and we have to join hands to bring in his welfare state, he said.
