Anantapur: Two YSR Congress Party leaders were arrested on Friday for staging a protest demanding implementation of Uravakonda Irrigation Water scheme.
Uravakonda MLA Y Vishveshwara Reddy and MLC Vennapusa Gopal Reddy - were arrested from the protest site at RWS office.
They said the protests would continue till the government gave assurances on implementation of the scheme for the benefit of the farmers. Tension prevailed at the RWS office for sometime when police tried to forcibly evict the protestors. Several YSRCP activists were pushed and shoved and in the resulting melee, some of the protesters were injured. The YSRCP supporters raised slogans against the government and the police high-handedness.
