Hyderabad: The discretion being maintained by the officials of AP assembly has been exposed.
YSRCP MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy approached the Information Commission questioning the educational qualifications of the in-charge secretary, the deputy secretary and other officials of AP assembly. In response to this, the State Information Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh issued notices to the PIO of AP assembly demanding explanation for not releasing the information asked for. The PIO was ordered to attend inquiry pertaining to the issue on the 13th of July. Ramakrishna Reddy spoke to the media on Wednesday at the party's central office to explain the details.
This is what happened
YSRCP MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy filed a petition on the 10th of November in 2015 under Right To Information Act 2015. He demanded to know the information regarding the educational background from school level to graduation level of higher officials of AP assembly. The act entitles the petitioner to know the information with one month of petition but it was not revealed. He again requested for the information in February of 2016. The requested information was not even classified. In spite of being public documents, they were not disclosed even after 8 months of filing the petition. Hence, RK approached the commissioner and orders were issued to the PIO.
Orders of the commission
RK informed that orders were issued by the commissioner to the PIO to attend an inquiry on the 13th of July with an explanation about why the information had not been disclosed. He mentioned that a citizen of India was entitled the right to get any public documents by paying certain fees. He remarked that the functioning of those officers was evident from his not being able to extract information being a member of the legislative assembly. He expressed hope in finding the information he had been waiting for at least in the presence of the commissioner.
