Complete Polavaram on time: YSRCP

Hyderabad: Demanding a firm and categorical timeline for the completion of the multipurpose Polavaram project, YSR Congress has said that Chandrababu Naidu cannot play the blame-game and search for an escape route at the fag-end of his tenure as he had purposefully taken over the project from the Centre.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, party senior leaders Mekapati Rajmohan Reddy (MP), Ummareddy Venkateswarlu (MLC) and Botsa Satyanarayana said, ‘Polavaram being the lifeline of the people of the state and Chandrababu Naidu taking over the national project from the Centre he cannot now go back and shift the blame on others but has to complete it as per the deadline announced by the State.

There is no time for lame excuses and Chandrababu Naidu owes an explanation and answer the people of the state as to by when will the project be completed, at what cost and who will bear the cost and shun from any further theatrics as only last week he had taken a busload of MLAs to Polavaram and had given the impression that the project would be completed soon.

Now he is searching ways to wriggle out of the muddle he himself had created as Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had categorically said that it was Chandrababu Naidu who had asked for the Polavaram project and had taken over from the Centre though the State Reorganisation Act states that the Centre should complete it, they said.

The difference between a genuine leader and corrupt leader can be seen in this issue as YSR has cleared the project on many counts and had initiated the work while Chandrababu Naidu has taken over the project from the Centre for his nefarious means and when things did not go well he is searching for a way out and jump out of the fluid situation but all the mess is of his own making and he owes an explanation to the people.

Now the Chief Minister is speaking in terms of taking the Opposition to Delhi, but we were never taken into confidence on any issue and were branded as anti-development when we raised important issues including the taking over of Polravaram, Special Category Status and others, they said.

‘This is a life and death issue and there is no way he can go back and there is no need for any turn around but the project should be completed by 2018 with a grace period of four months maximum failing which the people will not spare the ruling party,’ they said.

The letter written by the Secretary of Union Government is being shown as an alibi but what was written in the letter is about the cost escalation and the modalities and it is falsely being dubbed as non-cooperation.

The questions that were raised include that of fluctuation of estimates and other such related issues while what Chandrababu Naidu has been trying to project is falsehood and we demand that the Polavaram project should be completed as per the deadline, they said.
