Anantapur, Nov 6: YSRCP senior leader Vishweswara Reddy has demanded an impartial inquiry into alleged irregularities in the MPTC and ZPTC elections in Anantapur district and strict action against the officials responsible. Speaking to the media, he accused the coalition government of using the police for political purposes and suppressing opposition leaders, workers and polling agents.
He alleged that hundreds of YSRCP members in the Uravakonda constituency were arrested, including some taken into custody at 2:30 a.m., despite High Court directions against harassment. He demanded a probe into the conduct of the Uravakonda and Kuderu circle inspectors, examination of CCTV footage and action against officers involved in the arrests. He also asked the government to disclose how many TDP members were arrested.
He sought an inquiry into alleged voter irregularities, including votes cast in the names of people living elsewhere, people abroad and deceased persons. If wrongdoing is established, he demanded repolling at the affected polling stations. He also alleged that YSRCP agents were removed from polling booths, including in Konakondla, and urged the Election Commission to act.
Reddy criticised Minister Payyavula Keshav’s comments on criminal politics, saying he had no moral right to speak on the issue. He praised YSRCP workers for standing firm and said the party would continue its fight to protect democracy.
