AMARAVATI: During the question hour in the Winter session of AP Assembly on Tuesday , Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the quality rice would be distributed through Public Distribution System (PDS) in all the districts and RS 1,400 crores would be additionally spent.

Intervening during question hour, he said that the pilot project which started in Srikakulam district for supplying quality rice though PDS will be extended to all the districts from April onwards and an additional amount of Rs 1,400 cores would be allotted for the purpose.

We treat our manifesto as a holy book and along with it we are implementing schemes which we did not mention even and distribution of quality rice through PDS is one such measure, he said adding that the quality of rice being supplied has improved many times.

Minister for Finance and Legislative Affairs Buganna Rajendranath Reddy said TDP government had allocated Rs 3,000 crores for the supply of rice in 2018-19, but had spent only Rs 200 crores. On the other hand , the present government has allocated Rs 4,134 crores for the supply of rice which was of high quality. .

TDP has pushed Civil Supplies Corporation into losses which accumulated to Rs 20,000 crores. The previous government had taken a loan of Rs 13,500 crores on behalf of the Civil Supplies Corporation in the past five years and the loan was used for other purposes by the then government. Moreover, while the TDP government had allocated Rs 3,000 crores for rice supply last year, it had spent only Rs 200 crores.

The present government has to shell down Rs 10,500 crores to the corporation. The previous TDP government had incurred a debt of Rs 1050 crores for its well-publicized schemes of Chandranna Sankranti Kanuka and Ramzan Tohfa for the commodities supplied. That is how the previous government had destroyed the Civil Supplies Corporation and moreover it had also utilized the funds given by the Central government. The loan of Rs 7500 crores taken through the corporation by the previous government during last year was utilized for its schemes.
