Rajahmundry, August 2: Former Ministers Karumuri Nageswara Rao and Chelluboyina Srinivasa Venugopalakrishna criticised Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for betraying farmers under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme. Speaking at a press conference, they condemned Naidu’s failure to deliver on promises, as he defrauded farmers of Rs. 10,716 crore owed last year. They criticized Naidu’s anti-farmer policies, claiming he weakened Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs), which once supported farmers from sowing to selling. “Chandrababu’s stance is that farming is unviable. He misled farmers with false promises of Rs. 26,000 annually, only to renege post-election,” Karumuri asserted.
The ministers highlighted that Naidu’s pre-election pledge of Rs. 26,000 per farmer per year, including central aid, was slashed to Rs. 20,000, with only Rs. 5,000 disbursed in the first phase. They noted that only 46.86 lakh farmers benefited, leaving 6.72 lakh eligible farmers excluded. “Naidu staged a theatrical launch in Darsi, ignoring farmers’ need for timely investment support,” Karumuri added. They contrasted this with former CM YS Jagan’s tenure, where farmers received Rs. 67,500 over five years, exceeding promises.
Venugopalakrishna criticised Naidu for dismantling RBKs, leaving farmers without support for fair pricing on crops like mango, tobacco, chili, and tomatoes. “Naidu’s history of deceit includes promising Rs. 87,500 crore in loan waivers but delivering only Rs. 15,000 crore,” he said. The leaders labeled Naidu a habitual deceiver, exploiting farmers’ trust for power. “Farmers believed Chandrababu, only to be cheated again. This government thrives on betraying the backbone of our state,” they concluded, urging accountability.
