YSRCP Nellore district president and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy
Nellore, February 20: YSRCP Nellore district president and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy came down heavily on Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for misleading mirchi farmers by writing a letter to the central government.
Speaking at a press conference in Nellore, he said that Chandrababu’s letter to NAFED was just a tactic to deceive farmers, as there was never a practice of purchasing mirchi through NAFED in the past. He stated that if the Chief Minister had genuine concern for farmers, he would have provided support through the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS).
Kakani Govardhan Reddy stated that the government ignored a report from the horticulture department, which suggested providing Rs 3,480 crore as working capital for mirchi procurement. He also criticized the lack of security during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent visit to Guntur’s mirchi yard. He claimed that the government deliberately failed to ensure Jagan’s security because they could not tolerate him questioning their failures.
The former minister challenged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Minister Atchannaidu to visit the mirchi yard and face the farmers directly. He accused the government of diverting attention from real issues instead of addressing farmers’ concerns.
He further stated that the ruling alliance had failed to provide a fair price for any crop. Essential schemes like RBKs, e-crop registration, input subsidies, and free crop insurance were weakened under the current government. He said that farmers had suffered greatly under Chandrababu’s leadership due to the lack of effective policies.
