Komminei arrest, a calculated conspiracy to suppress free press
10 Jun 2025 5:05 PM

Tadepalli, June 10: YSRCP former MLA Koramutla Srinivasulu denounced the arrest of senior journalist Komminei Srinivasa Rao as a politically motivated attack on press freedom and a tactic to divert attention from the TDP-led coalition government's failures. Speaking at YSRCP’s Central Office, Srinivasulu alleged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu orchestrated the arrest following a TV debate comment on Sakshi TV, which Komminei immediately disavowed. Despite this, Komminei faces charges under eight draconian sections, including the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
Srinivasulu accused Naidu of targeting Komminei’s fearless journalism to suppress dissent, citing similar attacks during Naidu’s previous tenure. He claimed the arrest, coupled with protests and attacks on Sakshi Media offices, was a calculated move to deflect public outrage over governance failures, highlighted by YSRCP’s “Betrayal Day” campaign.
He also pointed to deteriorating law and order, referencing a recent murder in Anantapur, while police are misused for political vendettas.
“This is a police state crushing honest journalism,” Srinivasulu said, demanding the immediate withdrawal of false cases and Komminei’s unconditional release. He warned that silencing the press threatens democracy itself.
