Nellore ravaged as Ministers watch silently: Kakani
Nellore, Dec 6: Former Minister and YSRCP Nellore District President Kakani Govardhan Reddy lashed out at the TDP-led coalition government's complete negligence toward the farming sector and Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s utter indifference to farmers’ suffering. Speaking to the media at the YSRCP office in Nellore, he said continuous cyclones have devastated agriculture across the district, yet the government has not announced compensation or paid even a rupee as input subsidy. Farmers who spent Rs. 7,000–Rs. 8,000 per acre have received no support, and officials have not even visited villages to assess crop loss. Kakani said the situation is so pathetic that one wonders whether a functioning government or administrative machinery even exists. He recalled that under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership in 2023, similar crises were addressed swiftly and farmers were supported immediately, while YSRCP cadres arranged food and shelter during recent cyclones when the government failed.
Kakani criticised Sarpavalli MLA for following Chandrababu’s philosophy of “finding opportunities in crises,” focusing not on farmers’ relief but on where fake bills can be generated. He alleged that ruling party MLAs are looting crores under the guise of flood-damage repairs just as they did during the earlier “Neeru–Chettu” programme. He condemned the collapse of the Vigilance department, stating that officials have virtually become scribes to ruling party leaders, preparing reports dictated by MLAs and ministers. Call records alone would expose how Vigilance and ACB have turned into political tools, he said.
Throwing a challenge, Kakani invited the ruling party for a public debate in the presence of media and farmers, beginning right in his constituency, Sarpavalli, on how farmers were supported during YSRCP’s governance and how corruption is rampant now. He demanded to know whether TDP MLAs would agree to a CBI inquiry into false Vigilance reports and the massive scams in flood-relief distribution. He mocked the absurdity of Sarpavalli MLA writing letters to the Agriculture Minister for farmers’ relief despite being in power, questioning whether he lacks the courage to speak directly to the government.
Kakani further said Agriculture Minister K. Achchennaidu neither understands agriculture nor cares for farmers, recalling how he previously ran away from an open debate. He reiterated that YSRCP is ready for a face-to-face discussion anytime on farmer welfare under Jagan’s government versus the failures and corruption under the present coalition.
