The following is the memorandum submitted by the YSR Congress Party to President of India Sri Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday seeking directions to the Govt to speed up the rescue operations in Uttarakhand.

We place
on record our deepest appreciation and gratitude to the army, navy, air force
and other police forces that have been doing a commendable job in rescuing tens
of thousands of pilgrims unfortunately trapped in the unprecedented floods in
Uttarakhand. The armed forces have once again demonstrated that they are ready
for any sacrifice in the service of the country. We salute them from bottom of
our hearts for vindicating nation’s confidence in them.
The
greater problem, however, is with rehabilitation of those already rescued. They
should be taken to proper camps and provided necessary medical support, as most
of them must be experiencing trauma. Then, they have to be speedily ferried to
their homes Our party has deputed medical teams to Dehradun to attend on the
rescued pilgrims We learn from them that there is urgent need for more medical
camps at ground zero A large number of them need clothing, as they have lost
everything in the floods and similarly they need proper nourishment. Each of
the rescued passengers has to be provided with some cash for them to meet
immediate requirements.More flights and trains have to be organized by
Government from Dehradun to various destinations for speedily taking those
rescued to their homes.
From our
Andhra Pradesh state large numbers of people are still trapped in the flood
affected areas waiting for being rescued. There are thousands of pilgrims from
our state who have already been rescued but are waiting for proper
rehabilitation and arrangements to take them back to their homes. Many of them
are in absolute distress In some cases the lone bread winners for the family
are lost They need financial support and employment for at least one of their
family members Our party requested the State Government to provide Rs.10 lakhs
as compensation to the affected families These are no doubt formidable tasks;
nevertheless, they have to be accomplished at any cost.
We
request you to kindly direct the administration to declare these floods as National
Calamity and provide relief and rehabilitation as requested above to all
those rescued besides extending financial support and employment for at least
one family member in cases where they lost the sole bread winner. The
Government has to organize more medical camps and clothing We also request you
to kindly direct administration to provide many more special trains and air
dropping, wherever possible, to all persons already in the rehabilitation
camps.
