Do not politicise signature campaign

Press Release

New Delhi, January 16: Reaffirming that the signature campaign carried out by the Party was only aimed at seeking justice to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSR Congress Honorary President YS Vijayamma has appealed to all political parties and vested interests not to politicize the issue and blow it out of proportion.

“We met President Pranab Mukherjee, as he is a fatherly figure and an experienced statesman, pleading for justice to Jagan Mohan Reddy and not for seeking clemency or asking him to stall the investigation as some vested interests are propagating,” she told reporters here on Wednesday.

“Clemency will be given to convicted persons and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is an accused and the investigating agency has been dragging its feet to complete the formalities which enable bail to him. We told the President that the case is getting prolonged and bail is being denied,’ she said.

“His response was good and he said, we will see it,” she said and reiterated her appeal to the opposition and vested interests not to politicize the issue.

Just in a span of 20 days, responding to a small call of mine, nearly two-crore of people have volunteered to sign in favour of Jagan and to highlight the injustice being meted out by CBI, she said adding that as they were racing against time to keep the appointment with the President they could not scan all the signatures in the Compact Disk.

We only sought justice for Jagan and the overwhelming response shows the mood of public opinion, she said and thanked all those who were part of the campaign and voiced their concern.

The functioning of CBI has been faulty and going against its manual and the investigation agency has been showing discretion. While it has moved with a lightening speed in Jagan’s case it was callous in N Chandrababu Naidu’s case and told court that it has dearth of staff to investigate the cases against the TDP leader.

Recently the Finance Minter has told that private persons need not be questioned in the case Dimple Yadav, wife of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. However, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is 52nd accused in the case is kept in jail for so long denying him his rightful bail.

When Jagan was forced to leave the Party, the witch hunt began with countless IT raids and for ten months the investigation went on but he was arrested in the midst of questioning after he was summoned from hectic by-election campaign.

It’s nearly eight months since his arrest and CBI has been dragging the investigation and bail is being denied to Jagan on some flimsy ground or the other.

Though the government preferred not to file a counter in the 26 GOs case to enable the arrest of Jagan, it had to finally give up and concede that the GOs were in public interest.

As a prelude to Jagan’s arrest Mopidevi Venkataramana was arrested to set an example while different standards were applied in Dharmana Prasada Rao’s case.

Congress, forgetting the services rendered by YSR for over 30 years, has named him in FIR and has joined with TDP to defame our family, she said.

When asked about Sharmila’s padayatra, she said the wound is being healed and once the doctors give their nod, the padayatra will resume.
