Visakhapatnam: Two sisters from Arakotla Village in Payakaraopeta Mandal in the district, Shakunala Latha and Ramya, whose father had allegedly been brutally murdered by members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), met Leader of the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during his Praja Sankalpa Yatra here today and appealed for justice.
Showing a clipping from a Sakshi news story that covered the murder, the sisters cried out about the harassment and the threats they faced from the TDP members and the police. "On the morning of January 5, a villager named Pothamshetti Rambabu and the builder who had employed our father, Shakunala Satyanarayana, as a watchman at a construction site, had informed us about his death. When we rushed to the spot, it was evident from the blood stains that he was beaten up to death. Even though we informed the police immediately, they did not respond on time. After conducting the last rites, we filed a complaint in Payakaraopeta police station," they explained.
Adding that they were threatened by the police for not agreeing to sign on a bond for an exchange of an amount of Rs 50,000 from TDP leader Katta Srinu and Pothamshetti Rajababu, they said to YS Jagan that they were left with no option but to approach him for justice. The sisters added that although they had filed a complaint with the district Collector's Grievance Cell, justice had not been rendered.
YS Jagan immediately ordered party leaders Chikkala Rama Rao and others to look into the matter and promised that due justice would be done to the sisters.
