Do justice to affected farmers
06 Nov 2012 11:37 AM
YSR Congress Party
honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma said today that the party will continue
to fight on behalf of farmers till justice is done to them.
Speaking to the
affected farmers after visiting submerged crops near Bhimavaram in West
Godavari district, Vijayamma demanded the Government to announce a minimum compensation
of Rs.10,000 per acre to the farmers who have lost their crops because of
the Nilam cyclone and the resultant
floods.
Vijayamma suggested
that tenant-farmers also should be adequately compensated as they would face
extra financial burden.
Recalling the efforts
taken by the YSR regime for flood control, she disclosed that YSR thought of
modernizing the Godavari delta with a fund of Rs.2000 Cr but the Government has
not initiated any measures on the scheme even after three years.
Accusing that the
Government has totally failed in initiating effective relief measures to help
the flood victims, Vijayamma said the people in Godavari districts have been
repeatedly facing the brunt of the floods due to non-modernization of the
Godavari delta.
Assurance
to flood victims
Vijayamma also met flood victims who have taken
shelter in the BV Raju School and assured them that YSRCP would stand by them
in their difficult times.
