Visakhapatnam, Oct 26: YSRCP Visakhapatnam Mayor candidate and MLC Varudu Kalyani called upon people to protect the city's public assets from the TDP-led coalition government.
Addressing a press conference alongside party district president K.K. Raju, she promised transparent, corruption-free governance and a comprehensive plan to make Visakhapatnam one of India's top five cities.
She accused the coalition government of destroying hills, encouraging land encroachments and neglecting drinking water problems. She questioned the government's failure to repair borewells and demanded payment of ₹54,000 in pending assistance to women, ₹1.44 lakh in promised pensions and ₹3,000 monthly unemployment allowance.
Kalyani demanded clarity on the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant's privatisation. She recalled that the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government had passed an Assembly resolution opposing privatisation. She promised that, if elected, her first resolutions would address GITAM lands, protection of the Steel Plant and preservation of Simhachalam temple lands and hills.
She outlined plans for permanent drinking water solutions, pollution control, green belts, better drainage, improved sanitation and development of vacant public lands into parks, walking tracks and health arenas. Beach tourism, women's safety, drug prevention and infrastructure development across all 120 GVMC divisions would receive priority.
Highlighting YSRCP's commitment to social justice, Kalyani said the party had nominated her, a BC woman, to serve Visakhapatnam. She urged voters to support YSRCP's development agenda and protect the city's future.
