Tadepalli, Nov 28: Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy offered heartfelt tributes to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule on his death anniversary. In his message, he said: “A revolutionary who opened the doors of education for women at a time when women’s education was viewed as a crime, Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. A visionary who educated his wife Savitribai and empowered her to become the nation’s first woman teacher. On his death anniversary today, I offer my respectful tributes and remember his invaluable service to society.”
The YSR Congress Party observed Phule’s death anniversary with reverence at the party’s Central Office in Tadepalli. Party leaders garlanded his portrait and recalled his historic role as a crusader against gender and caste discrimination. They stated that Phule’s ideals of equality, education, and empowerment continue to reflect strongly in Y.S. Jagan’s governance model. Leaders noted that during his five-year tenure, Y.S. Jagan upheld Phule’s principles by giving 50% representation to women in both party and public offices, elevating them to key roles such as Home Minister, Deputy CMs, Mayors, ZP Chairpersons, and Corporation Chairpersons.
Leaders also praised the revolutionary transformation in the education sector under YSRCP rule. They highlighted reforms such as Nadu-Nedu, strengthening government schools, and ensuring that students, irrespective of caste or economic background, receive quality education. They recalled that the fee reimbursement system initiated by the late YSR and expanded under Y.S. Jagan enabled lakhs of poor students to become professionals, embodying Phule’s dream of educational empowerment.

Expressing concern, leaders criticised the present coalition government for dismantling progressive policies in education, health, and agriculture that were built over the past five years. They said Y.S. Jagan’s transparent DBT systems, welfare schemes, and people-first policies embodied the spirit of Phule’s lifelong fight for equality and justice.
The programme was attended by MLC Lella Appi Reddy, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, Mangalagiri constituency in-charge Donthireddy Vemareddy, Vijayawada Mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, Grievances Cell State President Narayana Murthy, State BC Cell General Secretary Sheikh Dastagiri, party wings’ leaders, and several YSRCP cadres.
