YSRCP condemns TDP for violence during YS Jagan’s Podili visit
Ongole, June 11: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders in Prakasam district have strongly condemned the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for orchestrating violence during former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Podili. Addressing the media at the YSRCP district office, Darsi MLA Boochepalli Shivaprasad Reddy, former MLA Anna Rambabu, and Ongole constituency in-charge Chunduri Ravi accused the TDP of hiring miscreants to hurl stones at YS Jagan’s convoy, aiming to create chaos and disrupt his outreach to tobacco farmers.
The leaders asserted that this was a deliberate attempt by the TDP-led coalition government to prevent YS Jagan from engaging with the public, particularly farmers facing distress due to the government’s failure to ensure fair tobacco procurement prices.
The YSRCP leaders questioned how disruptive elements could breach the security of a Z-plus category leader like YS Jagan, suggesting a calculated failure by the authorities. “The TDP’s sole agenda is to stop YS Jagan from reaching the people. Despite provocations, he stood fearlessly for the farmers, and our cadre showed remarkable restraint,” said Boochepalli Shivaprasad Reddy.
He highlighted YS Jagan’s commitment to tobacco farmers, noting that during his tenure as Chief Minister, he established a Rs. 3,000 crore price stabilization fund and facilitated tobacco procurement through Markfed to ensure fair prices.
The leaders criticized the TDP for resorting to “diversionary politics” to distract from its failure to support farmers, including using women as a front to obstruct YS Jagan’s visit. “It is shameful that a leader advocating for farmers was targeted with stones and slippers,” Reddy added.
Former MLA Anna Rambabu alleged that the attack was orchestrated under the leadership of Markapuram TDP MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy, demanding an explanation for his alleged presence in Podili at 2 a.m. on the night before the incident. “The TDP incited its cadre to create a volatile situation, resulting in injuries to YSRCP workers and even police personnel. Such acts of violence are a disgrace to democratic principles,” Rambabu stated, condemning the TDP’s actions as a desperate attempt to undermine YS Jagan’s support for farmers.
Chunduri Ravi, Ongole constituency in-charge, labeled the TDP’s tactics as a sign of their moral bankruptcy. “Hiring goons to attack YS Jagan’s convoy reflects their fear of his influence. The government’s collusion with traders has deprived tobacco farmers of fair prices, and this violence was a ploy to shift focus from their failures,” he said. Ravi emphasized that YS Jagan’s visit aimed to assure farmers of YSRCP’s unwavering support, reinforcing the party’s belief that the state’s prosperity depends on the well-being of its farmers. The YSRCP leaders called for accountability and urged the public to recognize the TDP’s “destructive culture” that threatens social harmony.
