Tadepalli, Dec 15: Former Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy paid heartfelt tributes to Amarajeevi Sri Potti Sriramulu on his death anniversary, describing him as a symbol of Telugu self-respect who laid down his life through an indefinite fast for a separate state for Telugus and remains immortal in the hearts of the people. Taking to the X platform, YS Jagan said Potti Sriramulu’s supreme sacrifice continues to inspire Telugu unity and dignity.

YSRCP leaders, speaking at the death anniversary programme held at the party’s Central Office in Tadepalli, strongly criticised Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for repeatedly insulting the legacy of the Amarajeevi. They questioned whether the government lacks the capacity to erect a statue for Potti Sriramulu and condemned the move to collect donations for the statue as deeply disrespectful to a leader who sacrificed his life for all Telugu people.
The leaders recalled that immediately after assuming office in 2019, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy issued a Government Order to observe Andhra Pradesh Formation Day on November 1 in honour of Potti Sriramulu, a practice followed consistently for five years. They alleged that shifting the date to June 2 after the change of government amounts to an insult to Amarajeevi and his sacrifice.
Former minister Vellampalli Srinivas questioned the coalition government’s priorities, pointing out that while Rs. 11 crore was spent merely on preparing a DPR for an NTR statue and public funds were used for other memorial events, the government is unwilling to allocate resources to honour Potti Sriramulu. He also highlighted that the government, which has borrowed Rs. 2.66 lakh crore in just 18 months, is asking people to contribute donations for the statue.
MLC Lella Appireddy said Potti Sriramulu’s sacrifice will live on as long as the Telugu people exist and affirmed that YSRCP, under YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s leadership, will continue to uphold and carry forward his ideals of unity and dignity.
The event was attended by MLC Lella Appireddy, former minister Vellampalli Srinivas, Vijayawada Mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi, MLC Ruhulla, SC Cell State President TJR Sudhakar Babu, Grievance Cell President Narayana Murthy, party spokespersons Putta Siva Shankar Reddy and Konda Rajiv Gandhi, and several other party leaders.
