Every scheme is a scam under Chandrababu
Rajamahendravaram, May 4: YSR Congress Party East Godavari District President and former Minister Chelluboina Venugopalakrishna has exposed yet another major scam by the Chandrababu-led coalition government, calling the tailoring machine distribution scheme a cover for looting public money in the name of empowering BC women.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Venugopalakrishna stated that “every scheme conceived by Chandrababu Naidu hides a scam behind it,” and the tailoring machine program is a textbook example of large-scale corruption.
The government had announced a Rs. 221 crore initiative to train and distribute tailoring machines to 1,02,832 women across BC, EWS, and Kapu communities, promising skill development and self-employment. However, only Rs. 75.06 crore is accounted for – Rs. 4,300 for each machine and Rs. 3,000 per trainee for skill training. The remaining Rs. 154 crore is untraceable. “This means the government is effectively looting Rs. 16,000 in the name of each beneficiary,” he revealed.
While government promised skill training aligned with IT and AI-driven employment narratives, the execution is deeply flawed and corrupt. “How does distributing sewing machines make women IT professionals?” he questioned. “This is not about empowerment. It’s about filling the pockets of Chandrababu’s men under the guise of women welfare.”
The scam deepens with the misuse of tender processes. Out of 65 companies that participated in the pre-bid process, 56 were arbitrarily disqualified, including reputed pan-India firms. The lowest bidder, Sri Technologies, was coerced into handling only 5% of the workload, while 95% was given to higher-quoting L2 and L3 firms. “This tender manipulation clearly violates central government norms,” he said.
Further irregularities include premature billing. Although training is yet to commence in most districts, the government is planning to release Rs. 25 crore as a mobilization advance to contractors. Training hours have also been cut short—from the mandated 360 hours to just 135—and beneficiaries haven’t received the promised training kits.
Notably, despite the presence of credible training institutions such as CEDAP, APITCO, and DDU-GKY, the program was handed over to the AP BC Cooperative Finance Corporation, opening the floodgates for corruption. “Even a retired bureaucrat, who played a key role in designing this scheme, was handsomely rewarded,” Venugopalakrishna alleged.
He contrasted this with the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government’s transparent and empowering welfare schemes such as EBC Nestham, Jagananna Cheyutha, Asara, and Ammavodi, which genuinely uplifted women and BC communities. “While Y.S. Jagan restored dignity and opportunity to women, Chandrababu Naidu’s administration exploits their names for loot,” he asserted.
YSRCP demands an immediate probe into the Rs. 154 crore tailoring training scam and calls for justice to the women betrayed by the coalition government’s false promises. The party also urges the public to remain vigilant and reject such deceptive schemes designed solely for political profiteering.
