New Delhi, July 24, 2013: Majority of people in Andhra Pradesh favour YSR Congress Party chief Sri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as the next CM of the state.

A latest survey conducted by the Centre for Study of Developing Societies for CNN-IBN and the country’s leading English daily The Hindu says that 25 per cent of the people in the state prefer Sri Jagan Mohan Reddy as the CM.

The survey says while 17 per cent of the people prefer TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu as CM, 12 per cent of the people voted for KCR, 8 per cent for Kiran Kumar Reddy and 2 per cent for Chiranjeevi.

Lok Satta leader Jaya Prakash Narayan is favoured by 5 per cent of the people while 20 per cent of the interviewed expressed their inability to choose.

If elections are held to the Lok Sabha right now, the Congress will win 11 to 15 seats with its percentage of votes coming down to 32 per cent from 39 per cent in 2009, according to the survey. It said YSRCP would win 11 to 15 seats, TDP 6 to 10 and TRS 5 to 9 seats.

Jagan factor is strong

In a debate over the survey results over the IBN live channel, eminent writers and journalists opined that the Jagan factor is very strong in AP and it is very difficult for the Congress to get political dividends in Telangana even if Telangana state is created.

Eminent Journalist N. Ram opined that Congress would not be able to get even the number of seats in AP as projected by the survey. “Congress is only awaiting its debacle in Andhra Pradesh,” he said adding that it is not very easy to solve the issue of T.

“Congress will not sweep the LS seats in Telangana area even if Telangana is given and the party will lose most of its present seats in Seema Andhra area. This will be the situation irrespective of the TRS merger with Congress,” opined another eminent journalist P.Sainath.

The present Government in AP is trying to push up welfare schemes but that step has come very late and is of no use to the party, he said, adding it will give no benefit to Congress. Sainath also said that AP is a non-governed state and people are suffering heavily due to steep hike in power consumption charges. "It is also a dangerous trend if the Congress bifurcates the state for political gains."

Most of the participants opined that Congress should not have hounded Sri Jagan Mohan Reddy with various cases.
