YSR Congress Party honourary president Smt. Y. S. Vijayamma, who visited several inundated villages and inspected submerged crops in East and West Godavari districts in the last three days, described the loss as unprecedented.

During her interactions with flood victims at many a place, Vijayamma said the situation is so serious that the farmers are in suicidal mood over their distress. “The loss is unprecedented and the victims do not know what to do,” she said.

Finding fault with the Government for not initiating any relief measures till now, she said the Government is not sincere and enthusiastic for rendering help to the victims.

Vijayamma lamented that 25 persons have already lost their lives and feared the figure may go up. Thousands have lost their shelter and are without food, she said, adding that the Government should take immediate steps to supply essentials and plan for construction of houses to the shelter less.

“You are the first to have come here and enquired about our distress,” flood victims told her emotionally wherever she went.

Vijayamma consoled the victims and told them that the new crop insurance scheme would facilitate payment of 25 per cent of the crop losses and YSR Congress would bring pressure on the Government for payment of at least that crop insurance amount immediately.

Accompanied by party leaders Y. V. Subba Reddy, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Jyothula Nehru, Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi and G. Venkata Ramana and MLAs Alla Nani, Maddala Rajesh and MLC Meka Seshu Babu, Vijayamma walked through water in several inundated villages to meet the flood victims.
