Tadepalli, Nov 26: YSRCP General Secretary and former Additional Advocate General Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of abusing his authority to withdraw major corruption cases registered against him. Speaking to the media in Tadepalli, he said the Chief Minister was trying to escape legal scrutiny instead of facing trial to prove innocence.
Ponnavolu stated that withdrawal of criminal cases was permitted only when there was clear public interest, as defined by the courts, but the government was attempting to use the provision for personal benefit. He described this as a direct violation of legal and constitutional principles.
He highlighted massive losses to the public exchequer in the liquor scam, skill development scam, Amaravati inner ring road irregularities and assigned lands issue. He said illegal removal of privilege fees and unlawful permissions to distilleries caused significant financial damage, and alleged that officials were pressured to support withdrawal petitions, which amounted to influencing witnesses.
Ponnavolu cited Supreme Court judgments that leaders in power could not mechanically withdraw cases involving themselves. He questioned Chandrababu’s claims of innocence while obstructing investigation and avoiding trial, saying such actions could lead to cancellation of his bail.
He announced that the YSRCP legal team would strongly challenge the withdrawal attempts and warned that if those in power erase cases against themselves, it would undermine justice and erode public faith in democratic institutions.
