YSRCP committed for women empowerment
, March 8, 2013: YSR Congress has celebrated International Women’s Day at the Party office here with the Honorary President YS Vijayama reiterating the Party’s commitment for empowerment of women and to carry forward the legacy of YSR.
“YSR has been a strong votary of women power and he demonstrated it by introducing various welfare schemes like pavala vaddi to usher in economic independence and the same ideology will be carried forward by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy,” YS Vijayamma said during a function organised to celebrate the event here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, she said, “YSR has allocated Rs 24,000 crores for women welfare schemes which has benefitted over one crore women while his predecessor N Chandrababu Naidu had allocated only Rs 1,400 crore.”
Anganwadi workers were ill-treated by TDP government while YSR has done full justice to them. In addition to the YSR schemes, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced Amma Vodi shceme under which money for the children’s education will be directly credited to the mother’s bank account.
While PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana had passed unsavoury remarks against women, TDP has ill-treated them, she said. Though there has been tall talk of women
empowerment, gender discrimination is still rampant in the country and the recent rape case in stands out as an example of the status of women in the country.
Political and economic empowerment will improve the quality of living and the status of women in the society, she said. The day is celebrated world over, to mark the victory of working women in America and Europe in getting better wages and reduction of working hours and the women power came to the fore in 1909 in the US and the next year in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.
MLA Mekathoti Sucharita, Party Women Cell Convenor Kolli Nirmala Kumar, Film actress Roja and others participated in the function.
