YSRCP not to contest RS elections

Hyderabad, Jan 23, 2014:  YSR Congress Party has decided not to contest the RS elections as it has no requisite majority to get its candidate elected to the Upper House.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, party senior leader and political affairs committee member Dr. M. V. Mysura Reddy said the party has taken the decision as it has not enough number of MLAs to send its representative to the RS.

“Neither will our legislators participate in the elections,” he said, adding, that putting up a candidate for RS without enough strength is tantamount to indulging in politics of conspiracy.

Mysura Reddy said three political parties favouring bifurcation are indulging in such politics. “Congress fears that it will not get even the three seats if RS elections are held after the assembly polls. Same is the case with TDP. Hence, it is putting up two candidates for RS polls with a view to win the second seat with the support of Congress, though it has not enough numbers to win the second seat,” Mysura Reddy stated.

TRS is also putting up its candidate with the support of Congress though it has no strength to win, he said and added: “This is another proof that these parties are in collusion and Congress is using the RS elections to divert the people’s attention. Congress has put pressure on Election Commission to conduct RS elections early for its political advantage”
