Hyderabad, June 27, 2014:  Expressing dissatisfaction over the Rs. 50 hike affected by the Centre on the MSP of paddy per quintal, YSR Congress Party farmers’ wing demanded the AP government to put pressure on the Centre to hike the MSP in such a way so as to enable the farmers to meet their cost of inputs into paddy cultivation estimated at Rs. 1708 per quintal.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, party farmers’ wing president MVS Nagi Reddy said the farmers would suffer a loss of Rs.348 per quintal at this rate.  “Farmers across the state will suffer a loss of Rs.7000 Cr for the Rabi and Khariff seasons over paddy cultivation if the MSP is not hiked further,” he said.

Nagi Reddy asked the Government to put pressure on the Centre to ensure that the MSP of paddy and cotton is hiked further so that farmers are not put to losses.

He also asked the Government not to link the farm loan waiver to Aadhar card. “Linking the loan waiver scheme to Aadhar will deprive many farmers of their due benefits that may accrue to them with the waiver,” he said.
