Vijayamma begins indefinite fast on power woes

Hyderabad, April 2, 2013: YSR Congress party honourary president Smt. Y. S. Vijayamma, along with the party MLAs and MLCs began an indefinite fast at the new MLA quarters here on Tuesday protesting against the Government’s decision to affect a hefty hike in power tariff.

Smt. Vijayamma began the indefinite fast by garlanding the YSR statue at the protest camp and sending a clear message that YSRCP will continue to fight on behalf of the people on all important issues plaguing them.

YSR Congress party, which had agitated against power tariff hike and the anti-people policies of the Government in and out of the assembly in the last few days, has intensified its struggle to bring the Government to its knees.

Tributes paid to YSR

Earlier on their way to the fasting camp, Smt. Vijayamma and party MLAs and MLCs, remembered Dr. YSR by garlanding his statue at Panjagutta cross roads and paying rich tributes to him.

From Panjagutta, they reached Basheerbagh Cross roads where they paid tributes to the martyrs’ memorial. After the homage, the people’s representatives left for the indefinite fasting camp at the new MLA quarters through a procession holding placards and raising slogans demanding the Government to reduce the hiked power tariff.

Hundreds of YSRCP activists followed Smt. Vijayamma and other party leaders to the fasting camp. Police earlier tried to disperse hundreds of activists who had gathered at the Martyrs’ Memorial at Basheerbagh.
