Sobha Nagi Reddy dies in road accident

Hyderabad, April 24, 2014: We regret to state that YSR Congress Party senior leader and Allagadda MLA Sobha Nagi Reddy, 45, who was grievously injured in a road accident last night, passed away at Care hospital this morning.

Doctors’ efforts to revive her to life proved futile. Doctors said she breathed her last at 11.05 AM. She leaves behind husband Bhuma Nagi Reddy, two daughters and a son.

YSR Congress Party president Sri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma, party leader Smt. Y.S. Sharmila and other senior leaders expressed shock over her death.

YSR Congress party spokesperson Vasireddy Padma told reporters at Care hospital that Sobha Nagi Reddy's funeral will take place at Allagadda tomorrow and most of the party leaders including Jagan Mohan Reddy, Vijayamma and Shrmila will attend the funeral.

Sobha Nagi Reddy was seriously injured when her car turned turtle skidding through a heap of wet paddy laid out on the main road by farmers for drying.  The accident occurred Wednesday night while she was returning to Allagadda after a day’s hectic schedule of YSRCP campaign at Nandyala.  

Along with her, car driver and her body guards were also injured. They were all immediately shifted to a hospital at Nandyala. While they were recovering at the Nandyala Hospital, Sobha Nagi Reddy was shifted to Care Hospital at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad this morning where she breathed her last at 11.05 AM. 

Pall of gloom at YSRCP office

As the news of her death spread, a pall of gloom descended on the YSRCP central office in Hyderabad.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Y.S. Vijayamma, Y.S. Sharmila cancelled their party campaign schedules and have rushed to Hyderabad on hearing the news.

"She was with me when I was in difficulties. I am shocked at the accident and her death. It is a sad news for me, " Jagan Mohan Reddy told reporters at Ponnuru in Guntur district. He had since left for Hyderabad cancelling his campaign schedule.

Vijayamma, who was in tears, could not control her emotions. “She was like a daughter to me. It is a shocking development. Her death leaves a void in the party and it can’t be filled,” she told reporters, weeping.

Sharmila, who shared dais with Sobha Nagi Reddy at YSRCP public meetings at Nandyala and its surrounding areas on Wednesday, expressed shock over the death. “I feel I have lost my elder sister. It is really shocking.”

Elected as MLA four times

Sobha Nagi Reddy, daughter of former Minister S.V. Subba Reddy and sister of former MLC S.V.Mohan Reddy, was elected four times to the Andhra Pradesh assembly. Born on Nov 16, 1968 at Allagadda, she married Bhuma Nagi Reddy and was first time elected to the assembly in a by-election in 1997. Later, she was elected to the assembly from Allagadda three more times. She was last time elected to assembly as YSRCP candidate in the by-elections of 2012. She also worked as the Chairperson of APSRTC during the TDP regime.

She filed nomination as the YSRCP candidate from Allagadda for the May 7, 2014 elections.
