YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister and daughter of YSR, Sharmila visited banana and cheeni orchards and cotton fields on the fourth day of her Maro Praja Prashthanam on Sunday in YSR (Kadapa) district and met with the farmers to find out their problems.

Speaking at impromptu public meetings, Sharmila lambasted the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government for not doing anything to the farmers who are suffering financially following the withering of their orchards and cotton fields.

During the 16.2 km padayatra on the fourth day covering the villages of Chinnarangapuram, Chinna Kudala Cross, Pedda Kudala Cross, Lingala and Lopatnutala, Sharmila continued to interact with various sections of people.

At most of the villages, women told her they are not getting proper drinking water supply and at times they are supplied with contaminated water.

She was accompanied by Vijayamma, party leader Vasireddy Padma and other local leaders of the area. Sharmila retired for the day at Lingala.

At Chinnarangapuram, she visited the cheeni and banana orchards apart from cotton fields and examined the withered crops. Almost all the orchards and the cotton fields looked withered due to lack of power supply coupled with insufficient rains.

Several farmers met her and explained that no official from the agricultural department had visited the fields despite several requests. “No official visited us despite the orchards and cotton fields going dry due to pest attacks, lack of rains and power,” they told her.

Sharmila assured them YSRCP would take care of their problems when it came to power.
