Sharmila rewrites history at Ichchapuram

Ichchapuram, Aug 5, 2013:  Rewriting history, Smt. Y.S. Sharmila wound up her Maro Praja Prasthanam Padayatra at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district on Sunday after walking a distance of 3112 km.

She ended her Padayatra by addressing a sea of humanity after walking for 230 days and creating record of sorts through her walkathon which began on Oct 18 last at Idupulapaya in YSR district.

Smt. Sharmila, who undertook the Padayatra on behalf of YSR Congress party chief Sri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, had earlier unveiled an 80- ft long ‘Vijaya Prasthanam’ pylon to mark the occasion. Incidentally, it was at this place that the late Dr. YSR had concluded his historic Praja Prasthanam Padayatra in 2003.

She became the first woman in India, and of course in the world, to have walked more than 3100 km encompassing1750 villages, 45 municipal towns, 9 municipal corporations in 14 districts across the state.

After embarking on the walkathon, Smt. Sharmila had crossed the first milestone of 100 km at Peddakotla in Anantapuram district, 500 km at Santinagar in Mahabubnagar district, 1000 km at Kondrapolu in Nalgonda district, 1500 km at Pedana in Krishna district, 2000 km at Ravikampadu in West Godavari district, 2500 km at Kakarapally in East Godavari district and the 3112 km at Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district.
