Rebel MLAs seek disqualification

Hyderabad, April 5, 2013: Rebel MLAs of the Congress and TDP who voted in favour of the recent no-confidence motion in the assembly on Friday addressed an open letter to the Speaker Nadendla Manohar from their fasting camp asking him to disqualify them immediately for facilitating  by-elections in their constituencies under Section 151 (A) of the People’s Representation Act.

The rebel MLAs informed the Speaker that they had violated the whip by supporting the no-confidence motion and also by participating in the indefinite fast against the power tariff hike under the leadership of YSR Congress Party honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma.

Accusing the Congress and TDP of trying to ensure that their disqualification will not take place one year before the due date of the next assembly elections with a view to avoid the by-elections in their constituencies,  the rebel MLAs said the two parties are seeking their disqualification but not the by-polls.

The MLAs said in their letter that, despite the fact of losing their assembly membership, they had voted for the no trust motion to stand by people after being inspired by YSRCP chief Sri Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy who has been facing difficulties for abiding by his commitment to the people.

“The minority Congress Government has unabashedly dared to hike the power tariff and shock the people with the support of TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu who has cheated people by opposing the no-trust motion in the assembly. Naidu had pledged the interests of the poor to escape probe into his role into the Emaar and IMG Bharata scandals in the same manner as he had earlier cheated the small traders by ensuring the absence of the MPs in the Rajya Sabha during the voting on the FDI,” the MLAs said in the letter, adding they had supported the no-trust motion standing by the people.

“Fearing defeat in the by-polls, Congress and TDP are now playing a new drama to delay our disqualification,” they said and asked the Speaker to announce their disqualification immediately and pave the way for the by polls.
