Visakhapatnam, June 25, 2013: Lashing out at the new excise policy of the Government to allow wine shops to have annexes for consumers to sit and drink, Smt. Y.S. Sharmila said the Government wants to earn more revenue by letting the free flow of liquor across the roads in the state.

Addressing a public meeting at Gannavaram Metta in Visakhapatnam district Monday evening, she said in a sarcastic vein while YSR wanted to ensure cooking gas supply to all houses through pipelines, the present Government has been planning to supply liquor to each and every household.

Smt. Sharmila said it is unfortunate that, instead of providing toilets to women, especially girls in schools, the Government has been flooding the entire state with liquor-drinking rooms. “The Government has been giving targets to officials to earn more revenues through liquor shops. Its love towards liquor business can be understood from the fact that it has doubled its revenue through liquor business in just four years,” she observed, adding that CM Kiran Kumar Reddy may even conduct liquor drinking competitions to the people in the near future.

“Congress claims to have inherited the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi but its PCC chief is a liquor mafia don while Chandrababu Naidu had promised during his Padayatra that he would bring down the liquor prices if TDP came to power,” Smt Sharmila said decrying the stance of the CM Kiran Kumar and opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu over the liquor policy.
