Guntur, Feb 25, 2013: In a scathing attack on Congress Government, Smt. Y.S. Sharmila said that farmers in the state were being forced to sell their kidneys due to the apathy of the Government towards agriculture and farmers’ welfare.

Participating in a series of Rachchabanda programmes at Gamalapadu and Narayana Puram villages in Dachepally Mandalam of Guntur district on Sunday, Smt. Sharmila said that villages have been suffering from the widespread prevalence of drought and are gradually turning into burial grounds because of the negligence of the Government.

“Unfortunately, the natural calamities are also adding to the woes of the Government creating further troubles to the farming community,” she said, adding that farmers are selling kidneys unable to face the brunt of the financial crunch.

Instead of introducing no confidence motion against Kiran Kumar Reddy-led Congress Government which has been adopting anti-farmer policies, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu has been undertaking Padayatra as part of his political drama, she remarked.

Reminding people of the suffering underwent by farmers during the regime of Chandrababu Naidu, Smt. Sharmila said that power charges were hiked 8 times in his 8 year and 8 month rule. “Chandrababu has been making plethora of assurances to people, especially farmers, forgetting that fact that 4000 farmers committed suicide during his period,” she said, assuring people that good days are ahead for them.
