Chandrababu cheating BCs: YSRCP

, February 27, 2013: Describing as bogus the BC Declaration of N Chandrababu Naidu, YSRCP has charged the TDP President with ignoring the interests of the Backward Classes during his nine year term.

“It was YSR who stood as a champion of Backward Classes (BCs) cause while Chandrababu Naidu has demoralised and  driven them to indebtedness due to his faulty policies and toeing the path World Bank terms,” the party BC Cell Convenor and spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao told reporters here on Wednesday.

Releasing a charge-sheet with 22 pointed questions on the policies that had affected the BCs during Chandrababu Naidu’s  nine-year term, Rao said; “ the TDP leader has worked as an agent of World Bank and had scant respect for artisans and his much touted Rs 625-crore Aaradhana scheme had benefitted only his party cadre and not the targetted persons.

The business units that were supposed to supply tools to the artisans sprung overnight and vanished quickly after making a fast buck but the backward classes did not benefit and Chandrababu Naidu should be prepared for an inquiry into the implementation of the scheme and the amount spent on purchase of tools.

Drawing a comparison between the YSR and Chandrababu Naidu rule, he said while the TDP rule has driven farmers to indebtedness and suicides due to the anti-farmer policies and steep hike in power tariff with agriculture and its allied fields bearing the brunt, YSR has rejuvenated all those sections with waiver of loans, interest and power charges besides rescheduling of loans and increasing pension amounts and ex-gratia.

Toddy tappes, fishermen, weavers, farmers, shepherds, and all communities of the weaker sections benefitted immensely under YSR rule. Fees reimbursement, free power, Aarogyasri and all other welfare schemes of YSR had benefitted Backward Classes.

These marginalised sections of the society were driven to suicides as Chandrababu Naidu has worked to eradicate the poor and not poverty, he said. No ex-gratia was paid to poor and the TDP leader made a mockery of suicides and deaths even.

The TDP leader should answer as to how artisans suffered with his anti-poor policies.

The number suicides increased from 57 in 1995 to 1,709 in 2004 by the time Chandrababu Naidu demitted office. YSR had done the damage control exercise and infused confidence among BCs through his welfare schemes and strict implementation.

Chandrababu Naidu claiming that he is the champion of BC cause in his padayatra and releasing a BC declaration is ridiculous as his past record shows that he was never committed for BC welfare and there are many examples to his foolhardy decisions.

“He has to answer those questions before making new promises. He wiped out NTR welfare schemes and suffocated the Backward Classes through his ruthless policies and he has no moral right to speak on the BC issue,” he said.
