Machilipatnam, August 7: Former Minister and YSRCP Krishna District President Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) vehemently condemned Kurnool DIG Koya Praveen’s remarks on the violence during Kadapa’s local body by-elections. Perni rejected Praveen’s claims, "YSRCP leaders are responsible for the unrest, heads would have been chopped off if not for police intervention," calling it a biased and deplorable statement from an officer tasked with maintaining law and order. “Such remarks question police impartiality,” he asserted. He highlighted persistent violence since the nomination phase, including assaults and intimidation, questioning why perpetrators face no control. Perni criticized Praveen’s claim that “heads would have rolled” without police, implying a planned attack on YSRCP leaders like MLC Ramesh Yadav and Velpula Ramulu. Sarcastically, he proposed petitioning the President for Praveen’s gallantry award.
Adding to his critique, Perni expressed disbelief at DIG Praveen's observation that injured YSRCP leaders showed no visible wounds but had bloodstains on their clothes. "This is not just absurd but an insult to the victims of violence," he stated, emphasizing that such remarks undermine the suffering of those attacked. He criticised certain officials of being swayed by the ruling party's influence, stating, "Some officers, blinded by temporary political favors, fail to see the truth. Only when their patrons lose power will reality dawn on them." Perni called for accountability and urged authorities to address the violence impartially to restore public trust in law enforcement.
