Tadepalli, May 1: YSRCP State spokesperson Karumuri Venkata Reddy stated that the past two years of coalition governance have been marked by extravagance, systemic corruption, and policies that have pushed Andhra Pradesh into a deep debt crisis. Addressing the media at the party's central office, he said the government, which came to power on false promises, has instead indulged in unchecked plunder, taking the state’s borrowings to Rs 3.61 lakh crore in just 23 months without delivering even a single new pension. He criticised the leadership for excessive spending on special flights and helicopters, stating that such luxuries have significantly burdened the state exchequer while basic public services like hospitals lack even essential supplies and Aarogyasri dues remain unpaid.
He stated that the government is deliberately creating crises to generate illegal profits, citing the artificial fuel shortage that led to long queues at petrol bunks and resulted in a Rs 150 crore scam. He further accused the administration of suppressing dissent by filing false cases against social media activists who question corruption, and then spending crores of public money on legal fees in the High Court and Supreme Court to defend those cases. He said even though the state already has functioning Secretariat, Assembly, and High Court buildings, the government is inflating estimates and awarding contracts at exorbitant rates, including an additional Rs 2,500 crore for glass façade works in Amaravati, which he termed the peak of corruption.
Venkata Reddy asserted that whenever questions are raised on these irregularities, the government resorts to diversion politics by branding critics as anti-Amaravati, while continuing to favour select contractors and associates. He accused the leadership of turning every crisis into a revenue opportunity, including issues like urea shortages, administrative failures, and even natural disasters, while shifting blame onto the opposition. He made it clear that despite intimidation through cases and arrests, YSRCP will continue to question the government’s actions and expose what he described as large-scale corruption, economic mismanagement, and anti-people governance.
