*Govt rattled by Amaravati corruption exposure: Perni Nani*

Tadepalli, May 18: Former Minister and YSRCP Krishna district president Perni Venkatramaiah (Nani) stated that the Chandrababu Naidu government was trying to suppress social media voices because it could not answer allegations of corruption, land manipulation and misuse of public funds in Amaravati. Speaking at the YSRCP central office in Tadepalli, he criticised the government for sending police notices to platforms like Meta and X seeking removal of videos questioning Amaravati works and alleged irregularities.
Perni Nani said the government was unable to tolerate criticism over what he described as large-scale corruption in the name of capital construction, including mobilisation advances, irregular plot allocations and land dealings. He alleged that while influential people and those close to the ruling establishment were getting prime plots near the Secretariat, Assembly and bypass roads, ordinary farmers were being allotted plots near burial grounds and waterlogged areas. He questioned why returnable plots promised to farmers were still not fully developed and why works in many layouts had stalled.
He stated that despite claims of rapid Amaravati development, no major new construction had taken place after 2019 apart from repainting previously completed buildings and promoting them through “yellow media.” He also accused TDP leaders of running a large-scale soil business in Amaravati, claiming nearly 1,000 tipper loads of black soil were being transported daily under political patronage.
Perni Nani said farmers who gave lands for Amaravati were still struggling for basic infrastructure, roads, drainage and developed plots even after several years. He questioned how the government could justify spending Rs 2,540 crore on glass facades for new Secretariat buildings while failing to address farmers’ grievances and pending development works. He also questioned discrepancies in compensation and plot allotments between Amaravati farmers and those who gave land for Gannavaram airport expansion.
He further said that the government was using police machinery to silence criticism instead of answering questions raised by YSRCP leaders and social media activists. He stated that if the allegations regarding Amaravati were false, the government should publicly refute them rather than seeking deletion of videos and posts. Perni Nani concluded by saying that the majority of people in Andhra Pradesh no longer viewed Amaravati as a people’s capital and warned that public anger over corruption, favouritism and misuse of public money was steadily growing
