Polavaram Sacrificed To Selfish Greed
18 Nov 2016 4:15 PM
- Contract
to Transstroy despite its incompetence - World
Bank and Russian Government already disgusted - Rayapati’s
assets confiscated by Andhra Bank
The fate of Polavaram project seems more and more uncertain
by the day. The CM’s statement to complete it by 2018 is apparently going to
remain a fiction. Out of affection towards TDP, MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao,
Chandrababu assured the centre that AP would take care of Polavaram project’s
construction, despite it getting national status. The contract for the
construction of Polavaram project was given to Trasstroy company, even after
knowing that the World Bank and the Russian Government had grown disgusted
towards it. Now the project, that was supposed to fill brightness in the lives
of lakhs of farmers by irrigating thousands of acres of agricultural land, has
its own future in confusion. If the project comes to a stop, the lands will
remain barren. After decades of struggle of the people of AP, the project is
going to be sacrificed to the selfish greed of one person.
Out of Chandrababu’s greed for money…
If a
project has national status, the Union Government itself will take up its
construction and complete it. The funds required for the construction also will
be borne by the Union Government, as per the tradition. Chandrababu thought
differently in this case. Realising that he could not fill his pockets with
anything if the centre took up the construction of Polavaram project, he
mortgaged the special category status of AP to the centre and got hold of Polavaram.
To return the favour of Rayapati, who had sponsored party funds at the time of
elections, he brought the project into the hands of the State Government. He
gave the contract for the construction of the project to Transstroy company,
owned by Rayapati. He also held a hasty press meet and announced that the
project would be completed by 2018.
How efficient is Transstroy?
It
has been proven again and again that Transstroy company owned by Rayapati is
inefficient to complete a project like Polavaram. After being disgusted with
the company, the World Bank withdrew from the construction work of Kakinada-Rajamahendravaram
road. Stating to the Government of AP that it could not provide funds to
projects handled by such an incompetent company, the World Bank stepped aside. A
company that could not succeed in handling the construction of a 16 km long
road was given a project of worth Rs.40,000 crore. The company was also
criticised by officers of St. Petersburg of Russia for not completing the
construction of a stadium in stipulated time limit.
Rayapati’s assets seized
In
light of this, Transstroy company’s owner suffered another blow. As the company
was indebted to Andhra bank for Rs 433.89 crore, the bank seized 631 sq ft area
land of his on the 16th of this month at road number 71 of Jubilee Hills. A 4-storied
commercial complex at Hakeempet also was confiscated by the bank, after giving
a number of notices as the representatives of the company Sridhar, Suresh Chand,
Malineni Sambasiva Rao, Rayapati Leela Kumari and Santosh Kumar Rathi could not
pay the amount to the bank.
Polavaram’s fate uncertain
With Transstroy company
under crisis, nobody in Andhra Pradesh and other states are ready to offer any
contract to the company. Rayapati has only one way out of this situation. He must
rob as much as possible from Polavaram project. For 2 years, the construction
work has been not noteworthy. Now the fate of the project has become highly
uncertain.
