The People's Leader Fights For Water For The People

  • People's benefits are the ultimate aim
  • For the basic needs of the people
  • YS Jagan's strike at Kurnool

Hyderabad: The leader of opposition and YSRCP president YS Jagan explained that everybody was the same, irrespective of which side of the river they were on. Their thirst was the same and their needs were the same. He stated that considering the needs of the people from downstream areas was also important. He announced that he would commence a hunger strike in view of the needs of those people. He decided to sit for hunger strike from the 16th to the 18th of May at Kurnool. He specified that this protest was to alleviate the problem of thirst of the people.

This is the reality

After the bifurcation of the state, Telangana which was an upstream area, concentrated on its own benefits. It being an upstream area, the Government of Telangana initiated Palamuru and Ranga Reddy lift irrigation schemes to get more water. It also made arrangements for drawing water at Dindi. Andhra Pradesh being a downstream area, it can get water only after passing the drawing by Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana states. Hence it has become very difficult to get the water. Moreover, Pattiseema scheme has apparently allowed the upstream streets to draw even more water than before. As a result, the amount of water reaching Sri Sailam is decreasing by the day.  This has rendered Rayalaseema and Nellore district waterless. The areas further downstream to Srisailam are receiving even less amount of water, as a result of which Nagarjuna Sagar is receiving very less water. Water supply to Nalgonda and Khammam districts of Telangana and Guntur and Prakash districts of AP has become limited. Upon completion of Palamuru and Rangareddy lift irrigation schemes and Dindi project, the water scarcity faced in these districts will be multiplied by many times.

What has Chandrababu done?

The Government of Andhra Pradesh should have predicted this situation well in advance. But due to his being caught in note for vote case, Chandrababu is scared of questioning KCR or TRS Government. Moreover, the matter of Pattiseema has been brought into picture to divert the attention of the people through bluffing. With this, Rayalaseema is not going to get a drop of water not only now but also till a century. Just to evade being punished for note for vote case, Chandrababu has sold the benefits of the state to TRS Government.

Fight of people's leader YS Jagan

A more responsible YSRCP has acted in the direction of saving people from the impending horror of lack of water. YS Jagan has complained to Governor Narasimhan, demanding the termination of schemes like Palamuru and Rangareddy. He has also publicly appealed regarding this. He has sternly questioned the Government in the assembly. He is going to sit for hunger strike from the 16th to the 18th of May on behalf of the people. He appealed for everyone's support to this cause, irrespective of political preferences. He stated that he would correct himself if wrong but suggested that everybody saw and realised how their lives were. He called for recognition of farmers' problems and needs.
