People's Dream To have Own House "Shattered" In Babu Govt

The tall promise made by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu that every  family will be provided permanent housing remain unfulfilled for the last three years. As a result, poor families who have been waiting to realise their dream to have government sponsored own house shattered.

After coming to power, Chandrababu announced construction of 12 lakh houses.  The TDP government sent proposals to the centre for 4.20 lakh houses. Although the union government sanctioned Rs 902 crore for the construction of 1.90 lakh houses under Pradhan Manthri Awas Yojana , government failed to utilise the funds.

Under another housing  scheme,  state and Central governments offering subsidies to the beneficiaries to own houses  in three categories costing Rs 5.3 lakhs, Rs 6.7 lakh and Rs 7 lakh. Under the scheme,  both governments will provide Rs 1.50 lakh subsidy and loan at Rs 6.5 percent.  The beneficiary will have to pay Rs 50, 000 initially.

Chandrababu government has sent proposals to centre seeking subsidy and bank linkages for not more than 5 lakh houses. The government promised the construction of 12 lakh houses.  Practically,  less than 10 percent houses were only grounded so far.

On the other hand,  though centre sanctioned funds, the chief minister trumpeted his government was alone spending money for poor housing programme
