Press Release
“Dharnas at all assembly headquarters, conducting of people’s ballot besides rededicating the Party to people’s cause to mark ten years of YSR’s Praja Prasthanam, were the decisions taken at the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting, “ Party leader Konathala Ramakrishna told reporters on Thursday.
The PAC meeting chaired by Party Honorary President, YS Vijayamma at her Lotus Pond residence, has decided to launch an agitation programme to protest against the anti-people policies of the state government, he said after the PAC meeting.
On April 3, we will hold dharnas at all the assembly constituency headquarters on the acute power crisis and unprecedented hike in power charges which has been affecting, agriculture, industrial and domestic sectors very badly.
Our next plan of action, Ramakrishna said, will be to hold People’s Ballot (Praja Ballot) starting from April 5(Jagjivanram’s birdthday) to April 14 (Dr BR Ambedkar’s birthday). The ballot will have two questions. Whether the public approve the hike in power charges or they reject it. The second issue is whether the public feel the power supply is good or not. The answer to the two questions will be a simple yes or no.
This ballot will be carried out at all mandals, municipalities and major panchayats. The exercise to give voice to the public opinion, he said adding that YS Vijayamma will lead the party in all the agitation programmes.
On April 9, the party will observe the completion of 10 years of YSR’s Praja Prasthanam and will rededicate ourselves to the spirit of the padayatra which has changed the political course of the state. The political scenario today is very much the same as it was when YSR started the padayatra on April 9, 2003.
We will also give a bandh call as socio, economic conditions are the same then and now.
The Kiran Kumar Reddy government is functioning on the lines of N Chandrababu Niadu government and the common factor being neglect of people and heavy taxation, increase of power charges, bus fares, reducing subsidies and doing away with welfare schemes.
The situation has close resemblance to the nine-year Chandrababu Naidu rule when power rates were increased almost every year and agriculture was totally ignored and power sector was run as per the dictates of World Bank and the mounting debts led farmers to suicides.
Only yesterday there was news that a weaver has committed suicide after he received Rs 40,000 as power bill.
These facts will be highlighted during the agitation programme, he said.
Left Parties leaders have met YS Vijayamma and expressed solidarity with our programme and sought our cooperation for the agitation programmes they would launch.
