Press Release
Eluru, Nov 5, 2012: YSR Congress
Party honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma today found fault with the
Government for its lackadaisical approach in undertaking rehabilitation
measures in the flood affected areas.
Speaking to media persons here
after visiting several submerged areas and crops in and around Eluru, Vijayamma
said CM Kiran Kumar and other ministers considered their visits to Delhi as
more important than to attend to the flood victims.
“There is no response from the
Government at all to the flood till now. Despite the weather department’s
warnings, the Government totally failed to anticipate the seriousness of the
situation and come to the rescue of the people to reduce the loss of lives and
property,” she lamented.
Flaying the Government’s
negligence towards the construction of the Tammileru Protection Wall, Vijayamma
said an amount of Rs.19 Cr was released by YSR for the purpose. “Acting on
representations, YSR sanctioned Rs. 28 Cr for the second time but the amount
has not yet been released by the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government,” she said.
Assuring people proper steps
would be taken to complete the construction of Protection Wall when YSRCP comes
to power, Vijayamma asked the Government to take up immediate measures to help
the flood victims and to compensate for the losses suffered by people.
Vijayamma said YSR Congress Party
would put pressure on the Government to ensure proper compensation is paid to
the flood victims. “We will stand by you. Our party leaders and activists will
participate in the rehabilitation activities,” she assured the flood victims.
