TDP-Cong ganged up for Polavaram bids: July 21,2012

Hyderabad July 21: The fresh bids for Polavaram project has brought the commercial interests of TDP and Congress together as the new qualifying companies were the same that took part in the previous edition and the inflated bid amount and deleting Power Plant from the tender is a loss to the ex-chequer, YSRC has said.

“TDP raised a hue and cry over the Polavaram tenders getting into the hands of a TRS sympathiser leading to cancellation of bids. In the fresh exercise, the company owned by a TDP leader and the previous winner were shortlisted, which means the business and commercial interests of the ruling and opposition parties are working tandem,” party spokesperson Bajireddy Goverdhan told reporters here on Saturday.

The original bidder, the consortium of Southern Engineering Works (SEW)- Ltd and Patel came second while Soma Constructions -CGCA quoted Rs 4,599.99 crores against Rs 4,653.99 crores of the former.

In the previous edition, Soma has quoted Rs 4,147 crores against SEW’s RS 4,122 crores and TDP made a big noise of the issue as one of the Directors of SEW has links with TRS. YSRC is not against the Polavarm project but in the process of politicising the tenders, the cost has gone up by Rs 478 cores in just 12 months time which a burden on the ex-chequer, he said.

YSR wanted to complete the project with Rs 4,500 crores which also includes a Power Plant besides the rock-fill dam and other works. But this tender does not include the Power Plant and should it be built independently it would cost thousands of crores.

“We will highlight these irregularities and go to the people demanding that the project be taken up at the original cost and not with the inflated one,” he said. Commercialisation of political interests, with the TDP leader who has high stakes in the consortium being shortlisted along with the previous winner gives rise to many suspicions that there are irregularities at the bidding stage itself.

This apart, the work has been diluted by scraping Power Plant from the project which is a matter of serious concern as public money is being misused, he said.

Sircilla dharna: TRS should express its solidarity with us in the Sircilla dharna which will be taken up by our Honorary President, YS Vijayamma’s later this month. She will be there to protest against the indifferent attitude of the State towards the weavers, he said.

YSR has promised loan waiver and pensions to weavers and the State is not keeping the promise. It is not fair on part of TRS to frequently demanding our stand on Telangana. We had already said that we are not against the separate state.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has under taken rytu deeksha at Armoor and KCR had never made any remark against our leader. Only after the Parakal by-election did the tone change but we need not spell out our stand each and every time we organise a programme in Telangana.

Respecting the sentiments of people who resigned for Telangana cause, we did not field a candidate in the by-elections but TRS has pitted a candidate against Konda Surekha, though she resigned for Telangana and farmers’ cause, he said.

When people from TDP and Congress are organising meetings why should anyone object to our meeting? “I request them not to disrupt YS Vijayamma’s meeting and express solidarity, “he said.
