YSR Congress Party on Wednesday criticised the State Government for its apathy towards farmers, who are in distress and demanded setting up of Market Stabilisation Fund which would help rescue farmers when their produce fails to get the desired price.
“The State Government has been neglecting the farmers’ interests which led to the incident in Warangal where farmers burned their chilli crop as there were no buyers. We quit the assembly as loyalists to YSR, who had given farmer-friendly governance, and will remain so,” former MLA Srikanth Reddy and K Srinivasulu told reporters here.
“If the Congress leaders believe that they owe nothing to YSR, they should quit assembly and fight elections in the name of Sonia Gandhi instead of hurling abuses and accusations against YSR,” they said.
In Telangana region, the State could not provide power in December itself which led to the Warangal incident where farmers burned their chilli crop as they could not get the desired price. In coastal Andhra farmers have declared crop hoiday and in Rayalaseema region people are eagerly waiting for the meager one or two hour power supply.
To overcome such contingencies, YSRC has been demanding a Market Stabilisation Fund with Rs 3,000 crore corpus fund. The State Government and the TDP, which moved no confidence motion on the farmers’ issue, are not showing any concern towards the issue.
We resigned for the cause of farmers and we continue to express solidarity with our leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as we want to bring back the golden era of YSR’s people’s-friendly governance.
Chief Minister, N Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC chief Botsa Satyanarayana and TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu have been jointly attacking YSR and calling him names.
They started describing our decision to sail with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy as “sell out” but the three leaders have a quid pro quo history and are never sincere in implementing welfare schemes as they were always busy in looking after their personal interests.
If Congress leaders believe that YSR had no role in their victory in 2009, they should resign and face the elections which will clear the issue. “We firmly believe that we won because of YSR. There are also others in the Congress who still believe that YSR was the driving force behind 2009 poll victory. Instead of trying to defame the leader who is no more, the Congress leaders should go to the people with Sonia Gandhi photo and seek votes,” they said.
