Speaker: Bajireddy Govardhan-Feb20,2012

Putting the clock backwards, the Congress Government in the State is reminding of the Dark Age of N Chandrababu Naidu which reeled under power cuts, drought and misery, said YSR Congress Party spokesperson Bajireddy Govardhan.
“With four to eight hour power cuts and plans to hike the tariff, the Kiran Kumar Reddy government is trying its best to bring back the period of distress for farmers, workers and common man by increasing the power tariff and indiscriminate power cuts,” Govardhan told reporters here.
YSR Congress will take up the issue seriously and agitate should there be any hike in power charges, he said adding that the State was contemplating to increasing power charges two-fold on one hand and wants to double the number of hours of power cuts.
Ahead of the onset of summer itself, the Government is unable to meet the demand and is equally adamant as Chandrababu Naidu was during his term to take corrective measures, he said, as the State is witnessing official power cuts ranging from 8 hours in villages to 2 hours in cities besides two day cut for industries.
The budget itself does not have any provision for improving the power generation nor is the state showing any interest to bridge the demand-supply gap by going for power purchases from neighbouring states, he said.
When asked to comment on CPI state secretary K Narayana’s remarks, he said, “we prefer to ignore him and his comments as well.”
The Speaker failed to uphold the dignity of the Chair and behaved like a Congress worker by not accepting the resignation letters of MLAs who defied the whip immediately. The script was written somewhere else and things are moving accordingly as the decision was kept pending and the notification for by-polls has come out, he said.
