Questioning the secular credentials of Congress Party, JudpudiPrabhakarRao of YSR Congress Party has said, that Party was trying to whip up passions on caste and religious lines.
“While Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy built the Congress Party in the State above caste and religious barriers, some leaders are now raking up those sensitive issues to gain political mileage but it will spell doom to the party in the ensuing elections,” YSRC party spokesperson Jupudi told reporters here on Tuesday.
If Congress leaders like Veera Siva Reddy and Tulasi Reddy raise the issue of caste and creed to impress their party high command, the move will fall flat as the secular credentials of the Party are at stake, he said.
“Bringing Bible, Koran, Church and Mosque into the electoral skirmishes is not in good taste and the Congress leaders’ remarks on dalits will have serious repercussions as half of the two croredalits go to Church. This apart the sanctity of the places of worship should not become material for electoral propaganda,” he said.
Congress has been showing its true colours, of late, by parroting what the communal forces and TDP had once said by bringing to the forbidden issues to the fore, he said.
Whipping up communal equations will serve no purpose and the dichotomy of Congress comes to the fore as it has defended the nationality and religion of Sonia Gandhi with fierce loyalty on one hand and when things were getting difficult, the party leaders are now trying to play the card of caste and creed in an attempt to distance people from YSR.
This is because, Jupudi exhorted, Congress is desperate following electoral reverses on three occasions after the death of YSR and is languishing in deep levels of frustration. As the party lost all its armour, it is now resorting to cheap gimmicks like raking up the Reddy and Christian issues.
“What was the consideration of Congress high command in giving the nod to YSR to take over the reins of the State, is it caste, religion, popularity or peoples’ mandate? “he asked.
Meanwhile, YSRC has condoled the death of revolutionary and dalit leader Satya Murthy. “He is a great fighter who stood for the cause of social justice,” Jupudi said.
