Cong., TDP to blame for the present power crisis

Press Release

Hyderabad, April 2, 2013: Blaming the State Government and main opposition TDP for the hike in power charges, YSRCP has said that it will voice the feelings of the people through agitation programmes.

Launching the Current Satyagraha, the party honorary president YS Vijayamma, along with MLAs and MLCs at the New MLA quarters, said: "had the TDP voted in favour of the no confidence motion the Congress government would not have increased the power tariff.

TDP which sided with the government during the assembly session is now sitting on dharnas which convey nothing."

The government has imposed a burden of Rs 32,000 crores on the people in the form of hike in tariff and surcharges, she said.

On one hand there is no proper power supply and on the other, there is a steep hike in power charges, she said. Farmers are committing suicides as their crops are being damaged as they could not draw water from borewells due to lack of power.

YSR had given free power to farmers as he was aware of the needs of farmers. The free power schemes which went well during YSR regime was deflated by the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, she said.

The poor cannot pay the power bills as they are doubled and there is every need for the government to take care of the hike, she said.

During the past three to five years, the government has failed miserably to address the problems of the people and has burdened people with taxes, increase of fares and charges.

While the government revenue has gone up drastically, the hike in bus fares, water charges, municipal taxes and power charges has no meaning, she said.

For the past three years YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been holding dharnas on people's issues and has been with the people.

Chandrababu Naidu publishing black paper on power crisis has no meaning as TDP did not move a no confidence motion, nor it supported the one moved by other opposition parties, she said.

Naidu claiming that power sector was well during TDP rule is rubbish as there were 18-20 hours of power cuts and he has increased power tariff eight times in nine years. This government is emulating him and has increased charges four times in four years, she said.

Chandrababu Naidu has shattered the power sector in the state and encouraged private participation heavily by signing 23 MoUs without proper verification.

Earlier, they paid tributes to YSR at the Punjagutta and paid homage to the martyrs of Basheerbagh police firing.
