Centre going ahead with division in haste

Press release

Hyderabad, October 12, 2013: The Centre has sent strong signals that it is going ahead with division process by convening the first meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) unmindful of the turmoil prevalent in the State and it is time for all protagonists of a united state to come together and oppose the GoM, YSR Congress has said.

“The Centre has been toeing a risky path setting aside all precedents and is in a hurry to divide the state for political gains even as the Congress leadership has no clarity on the issue but has only a single point agenda of splitting the state at the earliest,” Party senior leader Konthala Ramakrishna told reporters here on Friday.

While the state has plunged into turmoil, Delhi has been undeterred by the events in the state and is going ahead with the division process as the GoM has set up the terms of reference of the committee, identified 11 subjects and has allocated various subjects like irrigation and employment among themselves.

“While the Centre did not consider the long pending demand of a Vidrbha state and has hoodwinked the 2001 resolution of CWC to set up a second State Reorganisation Committee (SRC) and it did not honour the precedence of NDA creating news states only after the respective state governments adopted a resolution giving the nod.

When it came to Andhra Pradesh, the Centre has become a law unto itself and has been charting its own course dumping the sentiments of Seemandhra with an overbearing attitude.

We have been demanding the Government to convene a special session to adopt a resolution against the division of the State but the Chief Minister, who has tries to project himself as the champion of the Seemandhra cause though his words and deeds never match and leader of opposition N Chandrababu, who has given a letter accepting the division, have given the much needed support to Center to go ahead with the bifurcation.

The Central leaders are also a confused lot. While AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh says that the cabinet note will be sent to the assembly, Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde says that the GoM recommendations will be sent to the President which in turn will come to the State Assembly.

Congress spokesperson PC Chacko on the other hand says there is no deadline for division and it can happen before or after the 2014 elections. The Congress which is a divided house on the procedure has been sending confusing signals,” he said.

TDP claiming that Chandrababu Naidu’s deeksha in Delhi had been successful as the Centre has come down and set up GoM shows its political ignorance. GoM is set up to expedite the division process and if TDP is ardently supporting the bifurcation, Naidu’s deeksha has been successful. Every time Naidu visits Delhi, the Congress high command is take one big step forward towards partition of the State.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy too has been fluctuating often on his stand.  He has to tell as to what was the understanding he had reached with employees union and after he failed to convene the assembly session as we have demanded how he is going convince the people.

What he could do during his term is only to water down YSR welfare schemes and act at the behest of high command with a hidden agenda.

On MIM leader’s remarks, he said, our party has secular credentials and it will stick to it. We are always on a secular plank and there is no need to deviate.
