YSRCP committed for women empowerment

Hyderabad
, March 8, 2013: YSR Congress has
celebrated International Women’s Day at the Party office here with the Honorary
President YS Vijayama reiterating the Party’s commitment for empowerment of
women and to carry forward the legacy of YSR.

“YSR has been a strong votary of women power and he
demonstrated it by introducing various welfare schemes like pavala vaddi to
usher in economic independence and the same ideology will be carried forward by
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy,” YS Vijayamma said during a function organised to
celebrate the event here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, she said, “YSR has
allocated Rs 24,000 crores for women welfare schemes which has benefitted over
one crore women while his predecessor N Chandrababu Naidu had allocated only Rs
1,400 crore.”

Anganwadi workers were ill-treated by TDP
government while YSR has done full justice to them. In addition to the YSR
schemes, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced Amma Vodi shceme under which money
for the children’s education will be directly credited to the mother’s bank
account.

While PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana had passed
unsavoury remarks against women, TDP has ill-treated them, she said.  Though there has been tall talk of women

empowerment, gender discrimination is still rampant
in the country and the recent rape case in
Delhi
stands out as an example of the status
of women in the country.

Political and economic empowerment will improve the
quality of living and the status of women in the society, she said. The day is
celebrated world over,  to mark the
victory of working women in America and Europe in getting better wages and
reduction of working hours and the women power came to the fore in 1909 in the US
and the next year in the Danish capital of Copenhagen.

MLA Mekathoti Sucharita, Party Women Cell Convenor
Kolli Nirmala Kumar, Film actress Roja and others participated in the function.
