YSRCP welcomes HC ruling

Hyderabad, Aug 8: Welcoming the High Court’s decision to admit the PIL
challenging the Chandrababu Naidu government decision to withdraw
prosecution of TDP leaders who were slapped with cases of serious nature,
YSR Congress has said that it is a major setback to the State Government.
The High Court has accepted a PIL challenging the decision of the State
Government to withdraw cases against TDP Ministers, MLAs and leaders and
some of the offences are of serious nature, Party MLA Alla Ramakrishna
Reddy told reporters here on Tuesday.
The State government has issued GOs withdrawing cases filed under
Sections 302, 307 and other serious sections charging them with attempt to
murder, harassment of women, arson and the like.
State Ministers, MLAs, Speaker and other leaders including the Deputy Chief
Minister are involved in the cases and they were all blown off through a GO.
The Government has no discretionary power to withdraw criminal cases and
it becomes more cumbersome if the person holds an office in the
government.
The Court has given one week time to give an explanation and the State has
no proper cover to lift cases of TDP leaders, he said.
