YSRCP seeks disqualification of defectors
05 Mar 2016 6:19 PM
Hyderabad, March 5: YSR Congress has petitioned to the AP Assembly Speaker seeking disqualification of eight MLAs under the Anti-Defection Act of 1986 who switched over to TDP.
A delegation of Party MLAs had given the petitions to Speaker to disqualify the eight MLAs under Paragraph 2(1) X Schedule read with Article 191 (2) of the Constitution under Rule 6 of the Member of AP Legislative Assembly (disqualification on ground of defection) rules of 1986.
Separate letters were issued under the Article 191 (2), which disqualifies the MLA, if he is disqualified under Schedule X.
The petitions were given against the names of Buma Akhila Priya, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, Chdipillara Adi Narayana Reddy, Jaleel Khan, Jayaramulu Thiriveedi, Kalamata Venkata Ramana, Mani Gandhi and Palaparthi David Raju.
Later speaking to media Deputy Floor leader Jyothula Nehru said: “the eight MLAs who crossed over should be disqualified immediately as their move would attract the provisions of the anti-defection law.
The ball is now in the court of the Speaker who should safeguard the democratic values and look at things in an impartial way.’
If the speaker takes an appropriate decision it will be a slap on the face of Chief Minister and in the ensuing by-elections after the disqualification, it will be known on whose side people are, he said.
